DChurch at Bay St. Louis

St. Louis is home to the St. Louis Rams for football, the St. Louis Blues for professional hockey, and the St. Louis Cardinals for baseball. It is a city that loves its sports but, more than anything else, St. Louis loves baseball.

Festivals

The main festival in St. Louis has changed its name several times over the past fifteen years. It is now known as “Fair St. Louis” and occurs around the Fourth of July as an enormous public fair and music festival along the waterfront, under the Arch and along the cobbled riverbanks. Fair St. Louis is a descendant of The Veiled Prophet Ball, a Mardi Gras-like tradition among the city’s upper classes. The Ball, itself, continues as a private event. St. Louis’ top debutantes are presented at The Ball and one of them is named Queen. She is ceremonially chosen by a masked (or “veiled”) man, The Veiled Prophet, who serves as master planner and master of ceremonies for the year. At least officially, his identity is never known.
